Flooring options
Five floors, plain-English differences
Not sure which is right? Here's what each one does best.
Best for
Kitchens, kids, pets and rentals
Luxury vinyl plank looks like wood, shrugs off spills and is quieter and warmer underfoot than tile. It's the floor we recommend most for busy coastal households.
- Wood-look planks
- Waterproof core on most lines
- Scratch-resistant wear layer
Best for
Bathrooms, laundry rooms and mudrooms
Luxury vinyl tile gives you the look of stone or ceramic without cold floors, grout lines to scrub or tiles that crack.
- Stone and tile looks
- Water-resistant
- Softer and quieter than ceramic
Best for
Living areas where you want real wood that lasts for decades
Solid hardwood, either pre-finished at the factory for a faster, cleaner install, or unfinished so it can be sanded and stained on site to match existing floors.
- Pre-finished: faster install, durable factory finish
- Unfinished: custom stain and seamless matching
- Can be refinished many times
Best for
Real wood over concrete slabs and in humid rooms
A real hardwood top layer over a stable layered core. It moves less with humidity than solid boards, which matters in Wilmington.
- Real wood surface
- More stable than solid hardwood
- Works over concrete slabs
Best for
A hard, wood-look floor on a tighter budget
Today's laminate is sealed against spills and very hard to scratch. A strong pick for high-traffic areas when you want the look of wood for less.
- Very scratch-resistant
- Sealed against spills
- Lower cost per square foot

FAQ
Questions about flooring
Straight answers on products, pricing and how ordering works. Don't see yours? Call or stop by the showroom.
What's the difference between LVP and laminate?
LVP has a vinyl core, so it's more forgiving with water and softer underfoot. Laminate has a dense fiberboard core with a very hard surface, so it resists scratches well and usually costs less. Both come in convincing wood looks.
What flooring is best for a beach house or rental?
LVP is usually the best fit. It handles sand, wet feet and pets, and a damaged plank can be replaced. LVT works well in bathrooms and mudrooms.
Can I put hardwood over a concrete slab?
Engineered hardwood is the better choice over concrete. Its layered core is more stable than solid boards, so it handles slab moisture and humidity changes better.
Pre-finished or unfinished hardwood?
Pre-finished goes in faster with a tough factory finish and no on-site sanding. Unfinished is sanded and stained in place, which is best when you need a custom color or to match existing floors.
Can I take samples home?
Yes. Take a few boards home so you can see them with your own lighting, cabinets and furniture.
Do you install flooring?
We focus on the product: selection, quoting, ordering and delivery. For installation, our sister company 1 Oak Construction can help, or you can use your own installer.
